How to create a WiFi QR code
Updated: .
A WiFi QR contains settings that a compatible phone can use to offer a connection. Sharing the code shares the credentials, so decide who should have access before printing.
Copy the exact network settings
Enter the SSID exactly as it appears on the router. Spaces, accents and letter case matter. Check the password and security mode too. A guest network is often appropriate for visitors if your setup supports it.
The tool offers WPA/WPA2 and open networks. WPA3-only scanning support varies. Open-network QR codes omit the password. The SSID limit is 32 bytes, which is not always 32 characters.
Create the code and test the connection
Open the WiFi template and fill in the fields. The code is generated in your browser without uploading the SSID or password. WiFi separators such as semicolons and colons are escaped while preserving the original credentials.
Scan on a second phone and check that it offers the correct network and can connect. Seeing the QR image is not enough: behaviour depends on the reader, operating system and router.
Share the credentials deliberately
Download PDF or PNG and keep the code square with its white border. Avoid reflections, labels over the code and distorted proportions.
The downloaded file contains the credentials and the sign can show the password. Replace old notices when the password changes. Do not accidentally publish access to a private network.
Frequently asked questions
Does the QR encrypt the password?

Can I use a network without a password?
Yes. Select Open network and check that it matches the actual router configuration.
