QR code size for printing

There is no single minimum size that works for every code and scanning distance. Longer content adds modules, so the code needs more space to remain clear.

Think in modules, not just centimetres

Each small square is a module. More content means more modules; shrinking the image makes each one harder to distinguish.

The generator checks a conservative minimum of 0.35 mm per module at the intended size and blocks overly dense codes. This is a design check, not a guarantee for every printer, camera or distance. Prefer a direct link and a brief message.

Keep the quiet zone and contrast

Codes are generated in black on white with a clear margin four modules wide on every side. Do not crop this margin or cover it with a logo or label.

Keep the QR square rather than stretching it to fit a frame. Avoid patterned backgrounds, low-contrast printing and image compression that blurs the edges.

Test where the sign will be used

Print at your intended size. Scan with another phone at a comfortable distance under the lighting at the display location.

If scanning is unreliable, try shorter content, a larger code or a position without reflections. Check again after laminating or placing behind glass. Verify the destination as well as detecting the code.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove the white border?

Keep it. The quiet zone helps the reader distinguish the QR from its surroundings.

Will a larger QR always solve scanning problems?

No. Contrast, reflections, printing, the reader and a correct destination matter too.
